This 2-hour live virtual training will introduce participants to basic concepts and language relevant to work with gender diverse populations, such as those who identify as non-binary and/or transgender. This is an introductory level training, requiring no prior exposure to topics related to gender diversity nor to individuals identifying as gender diverse.
Participants will learn language to use vs avoid, how to integrate allyship and accompliceship in practice, barriers to help-seeking among gender diverse populations, strategies for increasing cultural competence (and humility) in work with gender diverse populations, and how to navigate shifting legal and sociopolitical landscapes relevant to gender affirming mental healthcare.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the professional, legal and ethical issues related to providing gender affirming healthcare.
Apply an understanding of relevant research and terminology to guide affirming clinical practice with gender diverse populations.
List barriers to mental health help-seeking among gender diverse populations and strategies for providers to minimize these barriers.

Instructor:
Chassitty N. Fiani, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience specializing in affirming clinical work, conducting research, and educating other providers on topics related to multicultural competence in mental health with an emphasis on the provision of gender affirming mental healthcare. They are a queer and transgender/nonbinary provider, integrating research and evidence-based practice with the lens of lived experience to provide high quality trainings with the goal of increasing accessibility of gender affirming care.

Policies & Procedures:
This program will not be recorded, and recording by participants will not be permitted. Powerpoint slides will be provided. AI notetakers will not be permitted. Violation of these policies will result in removal from the call without refund or re-entry.
Registration will close 4 hours prior to program start.
Accommodations must be discussed with the program sponsor at least 1 week (7 calendar days) in advance of the scheduled program. Closed Captioning is available to all participants without advance request and can be self-enabled by participants at any time during the program. Refunds are unavailable within 1 week (7 calendar days) of program inception. Refund requests initiated at least 1 week prior to the program must be submitted in writing to Cfiani@ValuedDirections.org. Transaction fees will be subtracted from the total refund in the amount of 5.0% per refund.
